Union Tractor (“UT”) is the largest independent distributor of replacement parts for heavy construction equipment in Western Canada. UT sources and distributes quality replacement parts and provides comprehensive shop and field repair services for a wide range of construction, mining, pipeline and forestry equipment. The company currently operates from five strategic locations across Alberta and British Columbia with headquarters in the Edmonton region.

POSITION OUTLINE:

Reporting to Chief Financial Officer the Controller will be a key member of the Finance team and will focus on financial reporting, internal controls, management reporting.

The Controller will work internally with the CFO to analyze issues related to profitability, growth opportunities, efficiencies and opportune acquisitions. Developing and maintaining relationships with auditors, suppliers, internal customer groups and external customers will be key to success in the Controller role.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

People Leadership:

  • Demonstrating a proactive, dedicated and driven attitude and encouraging, supporting and developing the same in others; and
  • Motivating, coaching and leading teams through times of change and growth

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Direct all accounting operations of the company including periodic financial reports, budgeting, and transactions related to all bank, investor, and related party financial reporting
  • Oversee the operation of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department’s goals and objectives
  • Journalize accruals, deferrals, month-end and year-end general ledger reconciliations
  • Provide supervision to the general accounting, accounts payable and payroll functions
  • Provide supervision for monthly bank reconciliations
  • Provide all working papers and be the key liaison to external auditors
  • Provide timely and clear internal and external communication to ensure all clients’ expectations are met
  • Guide the cash management and risk management of the company including monitoring of debt levels and compliance with debt covenants

EDUCATION:

  • The successful individual must possess a Bachelor’s Degree, in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration supplemented with a CPA professional accounting designation.

EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of five years post-qualification experience and a demonstrated commitment to professional development;
  • Working knowledge of ASPE:
  • Experience in leading and developing an accounting team
  • Hands-on experience preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and working paper files, including concise MD&A, KPIs, short and long-term budgets and forecasts, financial models, cash flow forecasts, and variance analysis;
  • Strong financial accounting, reporting and analytical skills to ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial information;
  • Good hands on experience with ERP systems including inventory management, work order systems and job costing;
  • A deep understanding of key business drivers and fundamentals, with a track record of delivering results and driving company value;
  • Multi-branch industrial distribution, oilfield sales and service, construction or heavy equipment industry experience is preferred;
  • An understanding of private equity firms and strategies would be very helpful;
  • Experience presenting financial information to a Board of Directors is very advantageous; and
  • Ability to exercise sound professional judgment and decision making on financial, business, organizational and human resource issues.
  • Experience in a public accounting firm would be an asset
  • Familiarity and knowledge of accounting standards for private enterprises would be an asset

Parts Technician

Location: Prince George

Position Outline:

Parts Technician is a key role within the Union Tractor Organization. This position is for a customer focused individual striving to improve service levels and increase customer confidence.

  • Excellent Product knowledge with a focus on continued improvement

  • Understanding and adherence to UTL system and procedures, including credit policies, warranties, sales & returns, core returns, purchasing and quoting
  • Respond to every request with a sense of urgency – report status efficiently
  • Source parts via OEM schematics – review requests for complete information – determine ETA requirements and source accordingly
  • Maintain purchase orders, back orders, inter warehouse transfers and open orders to completion in a timely manner
  • Able to receive incoming shipments, prepare outgoing shipments, maintain all records for and follow through with discrepancies
  • Create and maintain vendor reference material – database, websites, catalogues
  • Run monthly stock status reports and alert management with concerns
  • Record and analyze the movement of parts – suggest stocking items based on sales and local market
  • Proactively seek sales in slow times – cold call, up-sell
  • Ensure customer fleet information is recorded and updated
  • Increase sales by targeting customer requirements based on fleet and season

Position Outline:

Shop Foreman is a key leadership position in the Service Department responsible for:

  • Responsible for profitable and effective management assigned shop segments.
  • Manage a team of technicians, apprentices in all aspects of productivity including quoting, diagnostics and invoicing
  • Liaise with Customer, Sales and internal teams as required on service issues and opportunities
  • Assist in all technical aspects including diagnostics and parts support where required
  • Manage warranty and rework to assigned targets
  • Manage technicians to a timely and productive service schedule (Labour Utilization)
  • Act as an ambassador for Health and Safety including corporate initiative such as CORE
  • Comply with all safety requirements such as tool box meetings, safety meetings and hazard analyses
