Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic – Red Deer

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic is required to perform skilled tasks in the mechanical repair and maintenance of heavy trucks, earth moving, and related construction equipment including road graders, articulated haul trucks, excavators, pipe layers, and dozers.. Work assignments will be received in the form of oral or written work orders, but the employee is expected to determine the nature and extent of needed repairs.

Job Duties

  • Inspect, repair and adjust Caterpillar, Volvo, Komatsu and other heavy off-road equipment.
  • Perform incidental welding operations on equipment
  • Adhere to workplace safety policies, regulations and compliances
  • Communicate any unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries in a timely manner to the supervisor in order to facilitate prompt correction or reporting
  • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service
  • Diagnose defects in heavy duty equipment
  • Perform mechanical repairs on equipment in the shop and road calls when required
  • Electrical and hydraulic troubleshooting and diagnostics
  • Accurate completion of work orders and time cards
  • Repair cooling, and lubrication systems
  • Install and align engines and machinery
  • Repair mechanical transmissions, drive-trains and final drives
  • Repair cable-operated working attachments, winches, compressors, pumps, electric generators, etc.
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance
  • Clean, lubricate and perform other maintenance work
  • Instruct apprentices
  • Keep detailed and accurate maintenance reports and documentation
  • Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology and repair techniques
  • Other mechanical repair work as required

Requirements

  • Completion of off road Journeyman Program (third year)
  • Willing to work overtime.
  • Appropriate credentials and certifications
  • 3 years’ experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic
  • Possess a valid drivers license
  • Proven mechanical abilities in hydraulics and electrical, including schematics and diagnostics
  • Ability to work independently in a busy environment
  • Experience with routine maintenance operations
  • Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Able to work well under pressure
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times
  • Computer literate

Work Conditions

  • Physical ability to lift up to 50lb
  • Travel to off-site locations may be required
  • Safety equipment will be required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc.
  • Overtime as required
  • Hazards associated with the trade

    • Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology and repair techniques
    • Other mechanical repair work as required

    Requirements

    • Must have Red Seal Journeyman Mechanic status
    • Willing to work overtime.
    • Appropriate credentials and certifications
    • 5 years’ experience as a Red Seal Heavy Equipment Mechanic
    • Possess a valid drivers license
    • Proven mechanical abilities in hydraulics and electrical, including schematics and diagnostics
    • Must be familiar with SIS/ET CAT software
    • Must be able to diagnose codes and flash files through software program
    • Ability to work independently in a busy environment without supervision
    • Able to work with a minimum of warranty, labour write offs and rework
    • Experience with routine maintenance operations
    • Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment
    • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
    • Able to work well under pressure
    • Strong attention to detail
    • Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times
    • Computer literate

      Parts Technician – Chilliwack

      Parts Technician is a key role within the Union Tractor Organization. This position is for a customer focused individual striving to improve service levels and increase customer confidence.

      • Understanding and adherence to UTL system and procedures, including credit policies, warranties, sales & returns, core returns, purchasing and quoting

      • Source parts via OEM schematics – review requests for complete information – determine ETA requirements and source accordingly
      • Maintain purchase orders, back orders, inter warehouse transfers and open orders to completion in a timely manner
      • Able to receive incoming shipments, prepare outgoing shipments, maintain all records for and follow through with discrepancies
      • Create and maintain vendor reference material – database, websites, catalogues
      • Run monthly stock status reports and alert management with concerns
      • Record and analyze the movement of parts – suggest stocking items based on sales and local market
      • Proactively seek sales in slow times – cold call, up-sell
      • Ensure customer fleet information is recorded and updated
      • Increase sales by targeting customer requirements based on fleet and season
      • Maintain clean and professional appearance in parts and warehouse area
      • Lead by example regarding corporate initiatives
      • Adhere to and enforce all health & safety policies and procedures

      REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

      • Experience in Parts Sales- preferably in Heavy Equipment or Heavy Equipment Parts
      • Journeyman Parts ticket is preferred.
      • Sound set of computer skills including Microsoft office suite
      • Able to lift up to 50 lbs. repetitively
      • A customer driven positive attitude is a must!
      • Must be willing to stay late to complete priority tasks
      • Must be willing to be on call rotation
      • Must be capable of complex math calculations such as margin, markup, freight and exchange

      Job Type: Full-time

      Salary: $30.00-$40.00 per hour
